Concept and inspiration
I built a pair of DIY two-way bookshelf speakers. The look is inspired by the Ojas Artbook Shelf. The goal was a high-quality, design-forward speaker made from separately sourced parts.
Drivers and components
- Woofer: Wavecor WF146WA06
- Compression driver: B&C DE10-8
- Horn: Celestion H1SC-9040
- Crossover: Dayton XO2W-3K
- Level control: Dayton PAD8 L-pad, which sets the high-frequency level so the horn balances against the woofer
Enclosure
The inside of the box measures 12” × 10” × 10.5”. The port is tuned at 1” × 0.8”. The back panel comes off, held by threaded inserts, so the inside stays reachable for tuning, crossover changes and repairs.
About the scan
I scanned one of them with an iPhone and turned the scan into dots, the same way as the face on the front page and the house in Seattle. The scan on its own was rough: the black horn and the woofer came out full of holes, and it had picked up the stool and the cable too. So the stool is gone, and the parts the scan couldn’t see are rebuilt from my photos at the sizes the scan measured. What you see is the speaker by itself, floating. The ring of dots around it breathes a little, as if it were playing.
