We apologize for no extended post today. We have had a great day exploring the beautiful Cat Ba island and spending some time at the beach nearby, but a storm decided to roll in and kill the islands power. Our hotel has a working generator, so we are fine, but the wifi is still off so we can only post from our phones. The storm has been amazing, full of wind and rain and more lightning than can be imagined. We were sitting outside and watched a transformer explode after being hit by lightning, instantly turning off all the island’s lights. The lightning and rain has been more intense than anything we have seen before.
The storm is quieting down now so none of our plans have changed. Tomorrow we will be spending the day cruising Halong bay, and after that we will begin traveling up north to the mountains of the Ha Giang province.
